So Mudcat Saunders
wrote an apology to the blogosphere today. Good for him, especially for resisting the urge to write one of those "I'm sorry. . .but" faux-apologies that are all the rage these days.
Apparently quite a few people called him a racist. I know I didn't, but I'm also pretty sure Saunders doesn't know about this blog's existence. Anyway, his defense against the racism charge reads thusly:
I know few Southern white people who don’t have a great black friend and visa versus.
Well, gee whiz, Mudcat, I take back everything I've ever said about the south. Obviously, it's
not a region of this country teeming with racist legacies left over from the Civil War Era. Clearly the fact that only
some of Mudcat's acquaintances don't have any "great black friends" means that the south has been able to move beyond all those petty differences that still plague race relations in horrible places like the Northern cities of Detroit or New York City.
And "visa versus?" It's like he's a parody of Boss Hogg or something. This guy is about as authentic as George Bush's ranch.
